BLUES GREATS NASTY NED & THE NEW CONQUEROOS SUPPORT MUSIC EDUCATION WITH JERSEY JAMS SHOW

A concert by Central Jersey blues greats Nasty Ned & the New Conqueroos will help raise money for the Jersey Jams, Jersey Cares Music Education Program.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ (PRWEB) June 27, 2003 -- Jersey Jams Fund, a fiduciary fund of Bergen County United Way created and run by the New Jersey music scene, will continue to raise money for its Jersey Jams, Jersey Cares Music Education Program with a concert by Central Jersey blues greats Nasty Ned & the New Conqueroos, 10 p.m. Friday, July 18, at the historic Pattenburg House, Pattenburg Road, Pattenburg.

Part of the 30-show Jersey Jams, Jersey Cares 2003 Summer Concert Series, the July 18 show will mark Nasty Ned's second appearance at the Pattenberg on behalf of Jersey Jams Fund in four months. On March 22 at the Pattenburg, Ned participated in the Beatles Children's Sing-A-Long, one of several music mentorship events Jersey Jams Fund has produced since forming in September, 2001. Ned played a set of Beatles and blues classics to 30 children, then gave a free harmonica lesson to 7-year-old Olivia Saunders, winner of the "Love Me Do" harmonica package that included a Hohner harmonica and lesson book donated by Gorny Music Shop & Studio in Somerville.

"I'm proud to be a Jersey Jams, Jersey Cares musician," Ned says. "I think music education is important, especially with the proposed cuts in arts funding, so I want to do whatever I can to help turn kids onto music. I think it's great that the Jersey Jams Fund is trying to raise money for such a good cause."

Jersey Jams Fund has raised a total of $25,700 through donations and sales of a series of charity compilation CDs and benefit concerts. Partial proceeds from the $6 tickets to Ned's show at the supportive Pattenburg House will go to the Jersey Jams, Jersey Cares Music Scholarship for the New Jersey Children of 9/11. So far, Jersey Jams Fund has given $18,000 in music scholarship to 30 children between the ages of 4 and 16.

While continuing to raise money to provide music scholarship to the New Jersey Children of 9/11 and to produce free music mentorship events for all New Jersey children, the all-volunteer, grass-roots charity effort is pursuing matching grants from corporations and foundations to restore music education programs in New Jersey schools and to bring its music scholarship and mentorship programs to schools. Jersey Jams Fund also aims to help build Jersey Arts Centers to enrich children with music and art.

Nasty Ned is one of more than 50 Jersey Jams, Jersey Cares artists donating their time and talent to promote, preserve and produce music education in New Jersey. A veteran blues harpist native to Plainfield, Ned led the Famous Chili Dogs in shows with such blues greats as Albert King. The band released two acclaimed albums, 1992's "A Storm Is Comin'" and 1995's "Just Like Life."

After 13 years, Ned let the dogs out and formed his funky new band, the New Conqeroos, which features Ned's longtime blues-mate Lee Fink, the amazing Mike Flynn of Night Train and the awesome rhythm section of Gene Downin and Jake Jar-El. Nasty Ned & the New Conqueroos mix such classics as "Let the Good Times Roll" and "Hoochie Coochie Man" with a batch of tasty originals. For more info about the band, visit http://www.nastyned.com.
