Citrix and PASSPORT Provide Easy Host Access

Zephyr's PASSPORT PC TO HOST software, a desktop-based terminal emulation program, can be installed on the popular Citrix Metaframe XP server to provide easy TN3270E, TN5250E, VT100/VT220 and FTP host access. Installing PASSPORT on Citrix provides many technological and financial benefits such as quick deployment, ease of administration, increased IT staff productivity and much more.

HOUSTON, TX - Zephyr's PASSPORT PC TO HOST software, a desktop-based terminal emulation program, can be installed on the popular Citrix Metaframe XP server to provide easy access to IBM zSeries (S/390), IBM iSeries (AS/400) and Unix host systems and applications via PASSPORTs TN3270E, TN5250E, VT100/VT220 and FTP clients. Installing PASSPORT on Citrix provides many technological and financial benefits such as quick deployment, ease of administration, increased IT staff productivity and much more.

Quick deployment - Instead of having to install PASSPORT on every single PC in the company, you can now install PASSPORT on one Citrix server, publish it, and deploy it to all your users within hours instead of weeks or months.

Ease of administration - like all software, you will be required to apply new upgrades and patches. With PASSPORT installed on a centralized Citrix server, all of your upgrades can be done quickly. In addition, you will have more control over how PASSPORT is deployed to your users in terms of the session configuration, mapping of the keyboard, colors, and macros, etc.

Maximized ROI - you can extend the life of older PCs and existing thin client terminals by installing PASSPORT on Citrix. Moreover, the IT infrastructure cost will be reduced as a result of the ease of deployment, administration and reduced hardware expenses.

Increased IT staff efficiency and productivity - with the efficient deployment of PASSPORT, IT staff can spend their time on more strategic tasks.
Installing PASSPORT on Citrix

With Terminal Services and Citrix Metaframe XP installed on your Windows server, installing PASSPORT PC TO HOST on Citrix consists of three easy steps: installing PASSPORT on the Citrix server, publishing the application, and deploying the published application to your users.

1. Installing PASSPORT on the Citrix server - Before the installation, review the readme file and system requirements. Start your installation the same way you would install other applications on your Citrix server. You could be asked to reboot your server if any of the system files on the server were updated during the installation.

2. Publishing the PASSPORT application - The Citrix Published Application Manager is the Citrix utility used to publish, maintain and make specific applications available to users. You can publish PASSPORT as a standard application in the Windows NT domain scope, or you can publish PASSPORT as an application in a server farm. Each method has its own advantages. Please refer to the Citrix Published Application Manager help file for more information.

3. Deployment of PASSPORT to your user community - (Note: you could use other methods for deploying PASSPORT. This is only one example.)

Deploying PASSPORT to your users can easily be done by editing the published application (PASSPORT) and adding the appropriate .zws file (PASSPORT configuration) to the command line. For example:

"C:Program FilesPASSPORTPassport.exe" j:user homesession.zws"

By pointing to a specific .zws file, your users can customize their own PASSPORT sessions including custom keyboard, color, and macros, etc. Through the Citrix Network Neighborhood, custom ICA connections, or via ICA scripts your users can access the published application. Please refer to your Citrix documentation for additional information, or visit Citrix Systems on the web at www.citrix.com.

If you need to distribute a different .zws file that has a different host IP address, screen size, or emulation type, etc., you can accomplish this by modifying the session.zcc file (PASSPORT text-based configuration file) located in the PASSPORT installed folder and copying to your users home directory. When your user starts PASSPORT the next time, the new connection information will be using (overriding the .zws). Below is an example of a .zcc file and all of the connection information that can be modified:
