FOR DAVID FRENCH, "WHERE IT BEGINS" IS AT RADIO
DAVID FRENCH is currently spending time in New York City, putting the finishing touches on his debut album All the Difference. His song Where It Begins" is already garnering much attention on airwaves around the world.
Scottish singer/songwriter DAVID FRENCH has lived and worked in various cities in Europe and the U.S. The real-life experiences from his travels have provided him with countless tales and song ideas. His voice has been compared to that of U2s Bono, and his poetic songwriting style echoes Peter Gabriel and folk legend Leonard Cohen. DAVID is currently spending time in New York City, putting the finishing touches on his debut album All the Difference. His song Where It Begins" is already garnering much attention on airwaves around the world -- it is being played on an underground station far overseas in Serbia and Negro, is about to be added to the XM Satellite Radio Network Unsigned Artists" program and served as the basis for a mini feature about DAVID on the internationally broadcast Voice Of America radio network.
DAVIDs CD was partly inspired by the loss of his older sister and father, who died only 18 months apart. During his five-year period of grief, DAVID wrote songs, but says: I couldnt get up and perform in public. I lost my self-confidence." He became involved in theater and wrote music for plays, gradually easing himself back into the spotlight as an artist. He put together a band and started performing all over Europe, before heading to NYC.
FRENCH is co-producing the album with Rafe McKenna (Ash, Warm Jets, UB40) and Merle Chornuk (Jesse Malin, Ryan Adams); the disc features musical accompaniment by drummers Andy Gangadeen (Massive Attack) and Andy Newmark (John Lennon) and bassist John McKenzie (Eurythmics, Bob Dylan, Tina Turner). FRENCHs live band holds just as impressive pedigree: keyboardist Dave Cook has performed with NSync; bassist Keith Christopher has shared the stage with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Georgia Satellites and Yazoo; and drummer Aaron Johnson hit the skins for String Cheese Incident, Tito Puente and Harry Belafonte.
DAVID says he loves the pulse of the NYC music scene so much, that hes decided to stay for a while. He comments, I was completely enchanted by NY. After visiting and performing in cultural centers like Paris and London, I fell in love with NY in a short period of time."
Now, filled with renewed self-assurance, DAVID is happy and at ease performing live, bringing his music and message to fans old and new. In answer to their requests, he has released a two-song advance sampler from the album, and already the title song Where It Begins" is picking up radio play. He says the song is about a magic moment between a man and woman when its beyond first love and theyre at peace with themselves." Over the next few weeks, DAVID will be putting the finishing touches on his album, and playing at clubs in the NYC area.
