Folk Duo Po Girl To Release Their First Album on Jericho Beach Music in June 2003

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada - Jericho Beach Music is pleased to announce the latest addition to the label, Po Girl, a collaboration of Trish Klein (founding member of the Be Good Tanyas) and Allison Russell (formally of Vancouver Celtic folk band Fear of Drinking). The name Po Girl was derived from the New Orleans Po Boy Sandwich, which is a 'tip of the hat to the colourful city for inspiring the duos old-time songs and sounds. For the short time that Klein and Russell have partnered, they have formed a strong musical relationship and developed vocal harmonies that will tantalize musical taste buds. On their upcoming self-titled release Klein and Russell serve a healthy helping of soulful roots, jazz, and country grooves.

Trish Kleins accomplished musicianship and gorgeous vocal harmonies are a strong feature of the bands beautifully nostalgic sound. Drawing from influences as diverse as Mississippi John Hurt, Joan Armatrading, Rickie Lee Jones and Marc Ribot, Trish plays banjo, acoustic and electric guitar, harmonica and mandolin -- all with a natural ease and distinctive style. Touring internationally for the past two years as a member of the Be Good Tanyas, Klein has performed at festivals and concerts halls worldwide, gaining much acclaim.

Montreal-born Allison Russell is an impassioned performer and natural musician. Her broad musical palette has taken her from French language Festival du Bois with the gypsy swing of Le Hot Club de Mars, to the Vancouver International Jazz Festival with Aché Brasils capoeira enhanced sambas. During her two-year stint with Fear of Drinking, Allison was described by Geoffery Kelly (Spirit of the West) in Penguin Eggs as a mighty combination of Tracy Chapman and Natalie Merchant taking refuge in the book of British folk rock". Her rich, deep powerful voice, bodhran and pennywhistle playing, won over roots music audiences at festivals and concert halls across Canada and the US.
