Florida Mother Develops CD to teach Adoptive Parents to Communicate with their Foreign-Born Child

Chinese Language CD Helps Adoptive Parents of Chinese Children Communicate Loving Words and Phrases in the Most Important Early Days of Bonding

Bobbie Steve, an adoptive mother of three (after raising four biological children) has developed a CD of key phrases that adoptive parents can use to communicate with their newly adopted child. The idea came to her while contemplating the adoption of a daughter from China -- her fourth. She has already adopted children from the US, Russia and Ukraine.

She remembered her adoption worker putting together a list of key phrases at her request so that she could communicate with her daughter Katie, born in the Ukraine. When the opportunity presented to adopt a little girl from China, she began to wonder about learning the same phrases in a whole new language. It occurred to her that there must be other parents of foreign-born children who wanted learn to communicate with their new children.

Bobbie chose 184 key phrases such as Its going to be OK", Im your mommy", You are so pretty/handsome", and I love you". She has divided the phrases into 11 categories including love and comfort, encouragement, basic needs, orientation, safety, travel, emotions, play, general commands, greetings, and manners. Parents will be able to ask their child if he or she is hungry, hurt, ill or needs to use the bathroom. She located a master linguist and a recording studio to produce the Chinese version CD and is currently working on a Russian version.

Being an adoptive Mom," says Bobbie, I know what it is like no to be able to communicate with your newly adopted child in a language they understand. I also know how soothing it is to the child or baby when they hear you speak their language."

Also included is a section called shopping", which was developed for adult-adult communication. Adoptive parents will find this especially helpful while visiting in the country of their childs adoption.

Her product has been featured on Heart and Seoul", Yammi Wear", and Celebrate Adoption". All proceeds will fund the adoption of her Chinese-born daughter. Price of the CD is 12.99 including shipping, there is also a cassette tape version available for 17.99 including shipping. CDs are available by mail at Chinese for the Adoptive Parent, c/o Bobbie Steve, PO Box 635, Lecanto, FL 33460. Bobbie can be reached at 352-613-6130.
