RIDGEFIELD, Conn. (PRWEB) June 25, 2003 - Markland Technologies,Inc., (OTC: MKLD), (www.marklandtech.com) announced today that its design team has successfully completed the installation and testing of the Vehicle Stopping System at the San Ysidro, CA port of entry. The San Ysidro, CA border crossing, one of the busiest ports of land entry into the United States must frequently cope with attempts at illegal entry by "port runners". Undeterred "port runners" provide illegal entry for immigrants, drugs, illicit materials, weapons and terrorists into the United States.
The company conducted a series of over 20 vehicle test runs at speeds between 45 and 60 miles per hour on Monday, June 23rd. The tests successfully proved the effectiveness of the net to capture vehicles attempting to illegally enter the United States at a high rate of speed, without any risk to the occupants of the vehicles or nearby innocents. The tests were conducted by Markland Technologies Inc. lead design engineer Ernie Mercier, who drove the test vehicles. All aspects of the testing went as per specification for the system.
Mr. Ken Ducey, present at the San Ysidro test site, commented, "The VSS performed flawlessly. It is truly an engineering marvel to quickly stop a 6,000-pound vehicle without any risk to the occupants or innocent bystanders. All attempts to foil the mechanism, emulating a desperate port-runner trying anything to escape the net, were unsuccessful. We are very excited about the future opportunities for the VSS at border crossings and other government facilities, within the United States and overseas."
The Vehicle Stopping System is a remotely triggered denial of entry device that utilizes a net to capture and surround a suspicious vehicle. The device is installed in a trough underneath a border crossing exit lane, which is concealed by a high strength polymer cover that can withstand the force of passing vehicle traffic.
The test was filmed by numerous media outlets for local and national news broadcasts. Video of the test will be available shortly.
Markland anticipates the San Ysidro border officials will recommend to the Department of Homeland Security widespread deployment of the Vehicle Stopping System at a large number of ports over then next year.
