NuSouth Apparel launches their online shop in joint venture with CafePress.com
The Charleston, SC company NuSouth apparel founded in 1993 by Sherman Evans and Angel Quintero reconstructed the rebel flag, cast it in the vibrant reds, greens and blacks of the African liberation movement. The creation received national attention in 1994 when a black teenage girl in South Carolina was expelled from school for wearing a T-shirt featuring the retooled flag and the slogans The future is Da Phlayva" and The past is the past". NuSouth tackles the age old issue of racism between blacks and whites in America by integrating two 'opposing symbols...NuSouth forces us to look at what makes us uncomfortable. It awakens the mind. It generates energy, dialogue, deep thought. It evolves as we evolve."
The joint venture between NuSouth and Cafepress.com will include online storefront development and management, product manufacturing and sourcing, fulfillment, and customer service. A full line of apparel men, women and baby, bags, hats, undergarments, household items, and auto products will be available at www.cafeshops.com/nusouth starting 1 July 2003.
