Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) June 30, 2003 - Charity begins on campus at Pima Medical Institute (http://www.pmi.edu/locations/las_vegas.htm)of Nevada, where students have created a food/clothing pantry to help fellow students through tough times.
Pima Medical first launched the outreach in April through a food and clothing drive. Students were allowed to wear jeans instead of their uniforms on scheduled days - if they brought in any three food and clothing items.
The response was tremendous and everyone -- students and staff -- brought in items," said John Hayet, campus director.
Students at the fast-growing campus reach out to each other by sharing food, clothing, rides, child care and other gestures of kindness. They also recognize the achievements of their peers at regular award ceremonies, where students are for perfect attendance, academic achievements, best comeback and other accomplishments.
Pima Medical held a large picnic on Saturday, June 14th for students, staff and their families. The idea was to provide a fun time, an outlet at no cost to students and build a sense of community," Hayet said.
The staff, too, recognizes that the students come from homes that are often too chaotic to allow for studies. So, the Pima Medical Institute campus has opened its doors for extended hours to allow students to hang out" and do homework.
As a final ceremony to celebrate their achievements and commitment to helping both their peers and their community, students will enjoy the first graduation ceremony for the Las Vegas campus of Pima Medical Institute on July 25.
The Las Vegas campus of Pima Medical Institute opened doors this year to offer programs for people interested in careers as a dental assistant, medical assistant, medical secretary, phlebotomy technician or veterinary assistant.
Pima Medical Institute, provides high quality medical career training, and was founded in 1972. It has become one of the leading medical career training institutions in the western United States. Students can choose either certificate or associate degree programs from campuses at Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mesa, Arizona; Denver, Colorado; Seattle, Washington; Chula Vista, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Las Vegas. Over two thousand students graduate each year from Pima Medical Institute and the majority of those graduates are placed into jobs.
