On July 26th one lucky band will be opening the show at Town Fair IV
Two will be selected to battle in Pittsburgh, to determine who will open the Rolling Rock Town Fair concert for national artists such as 311, Blink 182, SUM41 and Def Leppard among others.
Pilot Radio, modern pop/rock band from Houston, Texas has one more accolade to add to their collection, as winners of the Houston leg of the Hard Rock Cafés Road To Town Fair competition.
The contest, much like a battle of the bands, was held at 18 different Hard Rock Cafés across the country. The top band from each location, based on popular vote, goes into an internet vote process lasting until July 7, to narrow the field to five. From those five, two will be selected to perform at the Hard Rock Café in Pittsburgh, to determine the first and second place winners and will then both open the Rolling Rock Town Fair concert for national artists such as 311, Blink 182, SUM41 and Def Leppard among others.
Pilot Radio, one of the top drawing acts in Houston Texas, toured for the first four months of the year and have been taking some time off from touring to performing select local shows while working on their new cd, tentatively scheduled for release in Spring 2004.
According to Ricky Young, frontman for the band, We are really excited about the possibility of playing in Pennsylvania again. We have only played there a handful of times, but the people are great and we always have fun. Of course, it is also an honor that people thought enough of our music to vote us this far into the contest".
Pilot Radios last cd was released in September 2002, a self produced LP named Antiques". Despite the closing of their distributor soon after the release, sales have been impressive for a band so new to the national scene, with several thousand units sold through retail, and unknown thousands at their public performances, as well as minor sales throughout Europe. The band also enjoyed radio play on over 100 stations nationally, a mixture of both college and commercial stations.
