SURVIVING THE DEATH OF A SIBLING
Living Through Grief when an Adult Brother or Sister Dies
By T. J. Wray

(PRWEB) July, 2003 -- More than 4.2 million adults will experience the death of a brother or sister this year. When author T. J. Wrays only brother died at age 43 after a brief illness, her initial response, as a long time educator, was to search for information that would help her to make sense of it all.

Although she found countless books, articles, and support groups for those dealing with the death of a parent, child, spouse or pet, she was amazed to find virtually nothing written to aid the millions of bereaved adult siblings through their journey of loss. How could it be that this type of loss was completely over-looked by the so-called grief experts? After all, in terms of the span of time, the intimacy, and the shared experience of childhood, no other relationship rivals the connection we have with our adult brothers or sisters.

In recognition of this lack of information, T. J. Wray wrote SURVIVING THE DEATH OF A SIBLING: Living Through Grief when an Adult Brother or Sister Dies (Three Rivers Press, June 2003) to serve a complete guide for those who must cope with the unique grief caused by the loss of an adult sibling.

The purpose of SURVIVING THE DEATH OF A SIBLING is to lend comfort and support to surviving adult siblings and to bring this most important and neglected type of grief out of the shadows and into the light of healing and hope."

SURVIVING THE DEATH OF A SIBLING also discusses:

  • Grief as a process, rather than something to be gotten over"

  • Searching for and finding meaning in your siblings passing

  • Using a grief journal to record your thoughts

*Choosing a grief partner to help you get through tough times

**Dealing with insensitive remarks made by others

*Helpful suggestions on how to deal with each stage of the grief process

With warmth and personal stories from the author as well as other surviving siblings, SURVIVING THE DEATH OF A SIBLING is a rich and insightful book on how to cope with the death of an adult brother or sister.

About the author:
T. J. Wray teaches religious studies at Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I. and is the creator of www.adultsiblinggrief.com. She lives in Rhode Island with her husband and three children.
