Marie de Magdala Boutique Showcases Modern Revivalist Designs
David Woodbury, the Los Angeles-based jewelry designer, announced the opening of his flagship boutique, Marie de Magdala.
PASADENA, CA (PRWEB) July 4, 2003 -- David Woodbury, the Los Angeles-based jewelry designer, announced the opening of his flagship boutique, Marie de Magdala.
Located at the southeast corner of Raymond Avenue and Holly Street in Old Pasadena, the storefront will showcase Woodbury's jewelry, dresses by local designer Elizabeth Marcel, and tailored coats by Samiah.
The store has an Art Deco Gotham-style decor, evoking the glamorous metropolis of 1930's New York.
"Marie de Magdala is a contemporary designer collaborative," said Woodbury. "Samiah, Elizabeth and I have a common nostalgia for re-interpreting the Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts styles. Our influences come together both in the jewelry and the apparel."
Marie de Magdala's collection re-interprets classic styles from the 1890's to the 1930's, with simplicity as the guiding philosophy.
Woodbury infuses his designs with a revivalist sensibility, setting lapis, onyx, and mother-of-pearl in sterling and fine silver. Elizabeth Marcel's tailored dresses in Indian silks have a sheer, sleek profile, while full-length tailored coats by Samiah have a dramatic wide hood, full silk lining, and fuller back hem.
"The look that we're going for is nostalgic, with a modern interpretation, invigorating the clean strong lines of classic apparel," said Woodbury.
Marie de Magdala is open Tuesday through Sunday, and the designers are accessible for in-store fittings and consultation.
