PDC Becomes Taiwan's 1st Company to be Granted the MMC Compliance Logo

PDC is granted the MMC Compliance Logo

Hsin Tien, Taiwan (PRWEB) July 7, 2003 - Power Digital Card (PDC) was informed by the MultiMediaCard Association that PDC's lines of MultiMediaCard products had been granted the MMC Compliance Logo. This makes PDC to be the first company in Taiwan to be granted the compliance logo. Thus, starting from July, PDC may officially begin to implement the MMC compliance logo onto its MultiMediaCard products.

The MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA) has strict policy measures on MultiMediaCards to work properly with the host devices on the market. Series of tests were established to test the MultiMediaCard to help ensure the compatibility of the MMC with the host products and thus, protecting consumer rights.

After the granting of the MMC compliance logo, this brings the number of companies with the official compliance logo to three; the companies are PDC, Renesas (formerly Hitachi), and SanDisk.

Starting this year, PDC has established a lot of record breaking either in the world or in Taiwan. The number one records are as follows: release of the 256MegaByte MMC, 128MegaByte RS-MMC, fastest transfer speed, being granted of the MMC Compliance Logo, etc. According to PDC's product roadmap, it is expected that PDC will continue to come out with record breaking products (256MegaByte RS-MMC, 512MegaByte MMC, Low Voltage memory cards, high speed memory cards, etc).

PDC sees the MMC to have a very positive outlook in the memory card arena. Many local companies usually bet on SD, thus when making their designs, the products can only use SD cards. But in the actual sense, a lot of global companies are designing their products to take both SD and MMC products. The main reasons are that the SD slot can be inserted with the MMC card, potential of the MMC to be brought up by mobile manufacturers, and MMC being a free in free out standard (no issues on licensing or royalty). It is predicted that the demand for MMC may be comparable with SD in the near future.

PDC expects demand for MMC/SD cards to exceed 100mn pieces in volume. This volume is mainly supported by the products on the market. In early 2003, there were around 500 devices that use the MMC/SD card, and predictions for devices using the MMC/SD cards were expected to reach 1,000 devices by the end of the year; however by June 1, 2003, there are already over 1,000 devices on the market using MMC/SD cards. Now the figure of devices to use the MMC/SD by the end of 2003 is predicted to be 2,000 devices.
