A new free newspaper for young people Scene in Portobello
The newspaper offers young people the opportunity express their views and demonstrate their successes to their own peer groups using their own voice. Much of the content will be photographic and be produced by young people themselves -- expect some serious "street".
We wanted to create a newspaper that young people would actually like, where they could learn from each others experiences. The best way to do this, is to involve the readers in setting up and production of the paper. The paper will not bombard them with marketing and sales messages," said Robert Pink, co-founder of Scene in Portobello."
It will be very different to the local rag, instead of estate agent adverts you'll find opinions and news on all that can be found in Portobello, including skate parks, sports facilities, music workshops, training, shopping and fashion. The first issue will include diary-style reviews from four less-then-privileged urban teenagers on their trip to the Glastonbury Festival (provided by Scene in Portobello and other sponsors).
Scene in Portobello is a new initiative, which is mainly run on a voluntary basis, but with the help from various "old heads" in the area.
