Burnaby Mayor Launches First Season of The Heights Performance Centre

Burnaby, BC (PRWEB) July, 2003 -- With The Heights Merchant Association AGM as backdrop, Jim Purcell, Artistic Director of The Heights Performance Centre, welcomed Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan as its first Season Ticket subscriber. Mayor Corrigan, no stranger to the theatre scene thanks to his children, both involved in drama studies at the university and high school levels, was thrilled to join the growing ranks of theatre lovers discovering the unique experience offered by The Heights Performance Centre.
With this event, The Heights Performance Centre is proud to launch its first season of plays, six (6) in all, which opens on July 31st with Pvt. Wars, by James McLure. Following in September/October will be David Mamets American Buffalo, a remount of The Centres inaugural play, and Bell, Book and Candle, by John van Druten, will enchant kids of all ages during the Christmas season.
The Odd Couple (female version) by Neil Simon will kick off 2004 in late January, to be followed by Savage in Limbo, by John Patrick Shanley, author of Moonstruck in March. The season will come to a close in May/June with The Long Weekend, a comedy by Canadian playwright Norm Foster. Season ticket packages are available at the introductory prices of $45/adult and $40/seniors and students until July 31st and $50/45 from August 1st. Season Ticket Subscription forms can be downloaded from our website, picked up from the theatre and tickets can also be bought directly at Biz Books, 302 West Cordova Street (@ Cambie) in Vancouver.
The Heights Performance Centre was founded in 2002 by James Purcell (Gemini Award winner, Counterstrike) to serve as a training and performance facility for members of the Burnaby Theatre and Acting Film Society. An intimate space that can seat up to 60 patrons, The Centre is North Burnabys own professional theatre company.
It is located at 250 Willingdon, one block north of Hastings, offers ample free parking and is wheelchair accessible.
