Black Writer's Guild -- PG Chapter: First meeting on Saturday, September 13, 2003 from 3pm - 5pm at the New Carrollton Library
Our Mission Statement
To provide vehicles through which people can become more aware of African-American literary talent. To encourage writing and literacy for all, through workshops, tutoring, and other educational forums.
Today the Black Writers'' Guild is a growing group of African American writers, which began in the Baltimore City area of Maryland. The Guild was incorporated in 1997 and the 501(c)(3) non-profit status became effective on December 4, 2000. The Guild is starting a new chapter in Prince Georges County, and we are looking for Board Members. Contact Judine Slaughter at (301) 814-4547 or judine@rahdistributors.com.
We will meet monthly for workshops and speakers on a number of topics relevant to the writing life. These meetings are open for writers aspiring to their first publication, and seasoned authors. Our published authors will have many opportunities throughout the year to showcase and sell their books as the Guild participates in several local book fairs and festivals where we rent tables for the event. We sponsor a big literary event each April where our members as well as members of the community have the chance to read their new works in a public forum. We also sponsor an annual Holiday dinner in December and a luncheon in June to celebrate the closing of our program year.
Membership dues are $25.00 each year and payment allows our members to attend all workshops free of charge and to have access to our database of writing resources.
For more information on joining the Black Writers Guild, MD - PG Chapter, contact Judine Slaughter at (301) 814-4547 or judine@rahdistributors.com.
