Gulf War Hero and former Lieutenant Releases Books
Former Lieutenant William J. Simmons, Sr. who served with the 251st Evacuation Hospital in the South Carolina Army National Guard has written several books about his experience in the first Gulf War. He has published an autobiographical and two anthologies of poetry that describes his feelings and gives a vivid account before, during, and after the first Gulf War. Books are available everywhere.
Simmons who is a native of Conway, South Carolina addresses the issues of racism, sexism, favoritism and biases in the book, Operation Desert Shield/Storm Through The Eyes Of A Black Lieutenant: Saga 1. The original book sold out in 1995. Now after some seven (7) later this book has returned and is taking the Internet by storm.
Simmons other books include: Gulf War Poetry from One Who Served and The Gulf War Anthology of Poetry. In these books, the former Lieutenant Simmons writes about being a Good Leader, Teamwork Is The Key, Leaving Your Spouse Behind, The Night Saddam Came, The Anthrax Shots, The Gulf War Syndrome, and a host of other topics addressed in these poetic Gulf War accounts. Simmmons continues to fight for his disability compensation. He just found out as of June 30, 2003 that the anthrax shot that was given to him in January of 1991 was expired in 1972. The information has been confirmed by several sergeants of his unit and the news media. Simmons is disappointed about finding out the truth some twelve (12) years later about this controversial shot, but he believes that God will lead him to victory and resolve for all Veterans who have served America when she called.
Simmons continues to assist Veterans in need even when he has struggled. He is a member of the National Gulf War Resource Center, Columbia African-American Writers Alliance. He is a former educator and now pursues other areas in computer technology.
