Birmingham, AL (PRWEB) July, 2003 - As the old adage goes: "Birds of a feather flock together."

And Birmingham's "Superstar," Ruben Studdard, won't be "Flying Without Wings" solo on the 2003 American Idols Live! tour.

Studdard's long-time friend and business partner, Alvin J. Garrett, who has played bass behind other music phenoms including Grammy® Award-winner, India.Arie, and Gospel great, Dorothy Norwood, will be playing bass and taking names right behind Studdard on the upcoming tour!

Garrett, a native of Tuscaloosa, AL, is the founder and "Chef" Executive Officer of the local entertainment management company, The Music Caterers, LLC, which he co-owns and operates with Studdard, who is Vice President.

Studdard sang lead for the Soul/R&B band, Just A Few Cats, one of the bands The Music Caterers manage, before skyrocketing to superstardom on FOX Television's "American Idol 2." After winning the title crown on May 21st, Studdard put in a good word to the producers of the tour and landed Just A Few Cats an audition with "American Idol" judge and tour coordinator, Randy Jackson.

Being one out of over 30 musicians who were invited to vie for the five slots available for touring band members, Garrett received a call from destiny on June 18th, the day after a plethora of talented bands, including Just A Few Cats, grooved for Jackson.

"I was so excited that I didn't have to say a word to the other guys," said Garrett, who strums bass for both Just A Few Cats and Atlanta's hot Neo-soul recording group, Freestyle Nation. "They took one look at my face and they knew!"

And the other cool Cats couldn't be happier for both of their bandmates.

"Since Alvin and Ruben handle the business side of everything here in Birmingham, they are the best people to represent Just A Few Cats on a national level," said Coleman Woodson III, the keyboardist and one of the group's original founders. "Their success makes me very happy, and they are using it to open up doors for us to do even more things. I have nothing but love for them."

With the lead singer and music director/bassist embarking on a nationwide two-month tour, many fear Just A Few Cats will silence their grooves until management returns, but they have no need to worry.

"This allows us to give new musicians the opportunity to perform with the band, which is a part of what we do," confirms Garrett. "Just A Few Cats has a number of events booked and they will continue to perform while Ruben and me are touring."

The Pop-Tarts® Presents American Idols Live! tour, which begins July 8th in St. Paul, MN and is set to play 39 cities around the country, hits Atlanta's Philips Arena on Saturday, August 9th and Birmingham's BJCC Arena on August 15th.
