Kwikpoint Medical Visual Language Translator Can Save Lives. Allows instant communication between patient and clinician through pictures, independent of language.

Gaia Communications, publisher of the laminated, pictorial card, Kwikpoint Iraqi Visual Language Survival Guide, announced the launch of its newest translator designed for medical use.

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) July 10, 2003 - Gaia Communications, publisher of the laminated, pictorial card, Kwikpoint Iraqi Visual Language Survival Guide, announced the launch of its newest translator designed for medical use.

The Kwikpoint Medical Visual Language Translator provides an immediate communication link between emergency services personnel and non-English speaking victims of fire or emergency medical incidents," says Mike Stallings, Division Chief, City of Rocky Mount, NC Fire Department.

The translator allows instant communication between patient and clinician by pointing to a picture symbol to request and receive key information about cause, symptom and treatment of the medical condition. In the ER or in the field where time is critical and medical interpretation may not be available, the translator can help assess the situation quickly with non-English speaking or verbally impaired patients," says Alan Stillman, president of Gaia Communications.

The Kwikpoint Medical Translator was developed in partnership with doctors, EMTs and nurses. Medically relevant content includes trauma images such as slip and fall, chest pain or ingestion of toxins; a pain scale chart with Spanish text; medication instructions; follow on specialist treatment and personal identification pictures. Highly effective graphics and images also ease cultural and gender issues.

I think the translator is highly useful and will be utilized by both staff and patient as it is very helpful in communicating complex concepts and instructions," says Mary Kay Turner, M.D. I have done a lot of trauma surgery and have worked abroad in Africa so I know the value this product can bring to the field."

In fact, the translator has been tested and is in use in various EMS environments including ambulances and other emergency response vehicles, hospital emergency rooms, fire stations, and within the U.S. military. The durable, laminated, pocket size tool can be used to supplement interpreter communications.

In the USA, 19 million people dont speak English very well. Multiple communication tools such as dictionaries and common phrase translators are available," says Stillman, but we believe the Kwikpoint Medical Translator is more effective and easier to use because it is not tied to language."
