Scanning Devices offers new MagStripe 2500 Series Magnetic Stripe Reader for PalmHandhelds
Includes support for Tungsten W, Tungsten T and Tungsten C Handheld models

Burlington, MA (PRWEB) July, 2003 -- Scanning Devices Inc introduces the newest member of the MagStripe family, the 2500 Series Magnetic Stripe Reader. The 2500 Series clips easily to Palm Handhelds, including the Tungsten line, for reading and processing magnetic encoded cards .

The 2500 series extends Scanning Devices magstripe readers to the full range of current Palm Handhelds, including m125, m130, m500, m515, i705 and Tungsten line. It also supports the Palm III, VI and Symbol® SPT 1500 series. The 2500 Series readers are 50% faster than previous 2200 series models, allowing faster swiping and reliable high-speed reading.

The 2500 Series is available in two track and three track models with several coding options, so you can select the reader for your specific application.

Scanning Devices 2500 Series Magnetic Stripe Readers are designed for use in a variety of mobile" customer environments. Typical applications include wireless credit card transaction processing, attendance recording, ID badge reading, survey & polling data collection, and sales lead capture.

Using the MagStripe 2500 Series means the reading and processing of data is fast, automatic and error free," said Dave Chanoux, President of Scanning Devices Inc. It also offers the added convenience of mobility, which our customers see as a major benefit."

The New MagStripe 2500 Series Reader is powered by the Palm Handheld, therefore it never needs batteries. It is powered and consuming Palm battery only during the reading" process.

The Palm Handheld is secured to the reader with spring-loaded clips that snap into slots in the Palm's base, making a solid assembly you can easily hold in one hand. Use your other hand to slide the magstripe card through the card guide. Squeeze the side of the reader to quickly release the Palm when finished.

The 2500 Series is 6.0" x 3.5" x 1.3" and weighs just 3.8 ounces. It reads Magnetic Stripe Cards with physical dimensions conforming to ISO 7810. Models are available to read 7 bit alpha-numeric and 5 bit numeric data. 2500 Series read card track data with error detection, converting data to intermediate form and transmitting data and error status to Palm via Serial Port.

After receiving data and closing the serial port to conserve battery, Palm completes decoding to ASCII data. To assist programmers, Scanning Devices provides a Software Development Kit (SDK) and Programming Documentation for 2500 Series Magnetic Stripe Readers on its web site.
