USC Joins Columbia African-American Writers for Conference
The University of South Carolina and the Columbia African-American Writers Alliance have teamed up to sponsor the first ever African-American Writers' Conference on the campus. It is hoped that this will be an annual event.
(PRWEB) July 12, 2003 -- The University of South Carolina Writing Center and The Columbia African-American Writers Alliance are pleased to announce the 2003 SC-State Wide Writers Conference to be held at the Sarah Nance Cultural Center and USCs Gambrell Hall.
This two-day literary conference will take place Friday and Saturday, August 15-16 and will offer fun, fellowship, and a plethora of opportunities to grow and evolve in the literary world.
The SC-State Wide Writers Conference will offer a variety of events that will interest both readers and writers alike. On Friday, August 15, participating published authors and poets will join together in an Authors Night". Along with dinner and a surprise speaker, there will be a book signing and open-mic, in which non-published writers are welcome to participate.
On Saturday, August 16, attendees will have an opportunity to participate in the many workshops that will be presented throughout the day. Of the many offerings, they include Inspirational Poetry, Writing for Children, and Christian Playwriting.
Featured authors for this conference include Dr. Kwame Dawes, Ms. Carrie Allen McCray, Joyce Hansen, Ray McManus, Dr. Dianne Johnson, and Charlene Monahan Spearen. The weekend festivities will conclude with a gala dinner, including a final open-mic and closing remarks.
The event is open to the public on both days. The Gala Dinner will be Saturday, August 16 at USCs Gambrell Hall at 6:30pm.
