Playhouse Merced and Boardman Mitchell Partners Engage ROP Graphic Arts Students in Poster Design Competition
Winner gets design internship for theatres 10th Anniversary Season
Merced, CA (PRWEB) July 14, 2003 -- Playhouse Merced, in partnership with season sponsor and marketing partner, Boardman Mitchell Partners, continues to form strategic community partnerships and opportunities for area youth. The Merced County Office of Educations Graphic Arts instructor, Carole Kamerer, teamed up with Boardman Mitchell Partners and Playhouse Merced to have each of her students develop a conceptual poster design for Playhouse Merceds first production in its upcoming season. Kamerers students had to create a poster using key elements from the musical Chess, the Broadway Musical, including a one-page summary detailing the research and development strategies each student used.
Representatives from Boardman Mitchell Partners and Playhouse Merced reviewed all of the posters. Kong Meng Thors design was selected and will be used as the official poster for Chess. Thor is a local high school student involved in the Merced County Office of Education (MCOE) Graphic Arts classes.
There truly arent enough opportunities for our students to apply the skills they learn in a positive real world environment," said instructor Carole Kamerer. This was a fun and challenging project for everyone involved."
Thor received a summer internship offer from Boardman Mitchell Partners and Playhouse Merced. In this internship, Thor will hone his skills working with Amy Miller, Boardman Mitchells lead designer, creating posters and other marketing material for seven additional main stage productions, four alternate season productions and the four limited run shows.
Mike Boardman, founder and CEO of Boardman Mitchell Partners, presented each student with a letter of appreciation for their participation and offering career mentorship and a letter of reference for college pursuits. In addition, all students, staff, and their families were invited to attend a Playhouse Merced preview show at 7:30 p.m., June 4th, of Always...Patsy Cline, the final production of Playhouse Merceds 2002-2003 season, which officially opens Friday, June 6th. Before the show, Claude Giroux will personally thank the students for their project work.
As a non-profit arts organization, were always looking for creative ways to leverage our limited resources," said Claude Giroux, managing artistic director. Our marketing team, Boardman Mitchell Partners, has developed relationships that are truly beneficial for everyone involved. Were thrilled to have this local talent connected to our efforts here at the theatre."
Boardman added, What we are creating here is an investment in the talents and dreams of our youth, and in some small but significant way, we hope that we are letting these students know that their future is important to our future as a community."
