A Chorus Line Philosophy
Pixler Productions, begins it's full scale theatrical debut with "A Chorus Line". One of the hardest to stage shows in musical theater. Will soon be announcing its full season and classes. Pixler Productions takes commuity involvement in theater to a new level.
(PRWEB) July 19, 2003 -- Pixler Productions, (Jared Pixler Executive Director / Robin Kidd Director) will soon be producing a full season of shows in the San Diego (North County) area. As a budding performing Arts Company we have chosen for our first full-scale production the 1976 Tony Award winner and Pulitzer Prize winning show "A Chorus Line".
The cast consists of people from all over San Diego County in several age categories. We have people driving from Santee and Escondido to do our production. Some of our performers are seasoned musical theater performers, a few of them don't even drive but take the coaster everyday to rehearsal in Carlsbad, and one of our performers is only 12 years old. The variety and talents of the actors and actresses in our show is phenomenal.
We choose "A Chorus Line" a very complex and difficult show because it is at the root of what we want to do in theater. When "A Chorus Line" was first conceived in the early 1970's the show began as a workshop. Where Michael Bennett would, with a group of dancers and other collaborators get together and talk about their careers, concerns, and lives. All of this was tape recorded and eventually a script was written and music from those initial sessions. All of the characters in "A Chorus Line" are based off of real people or a combination of dancers personalities and experiences from those first workshops.
The show is raw, but refined, and it expresses all of the joys of performance and why the arts are so connected to our lives. By the end of the show the audience knows that the performers on stage are real people and it does happen. The entire story can be summarized by one of the final songs in the show "What I did for love".
We come from those same roots, months of planning have gone in to this production. So many dedicated theater students and seasoned theater people have come together to make this show happen.
Our production company so unique because we draw everyone to theater. We have the graphic artists, helping us with sets and signs, we have carpenters helping us with set construction, we take people from every aspect of the community and try to find a place for them in "The BIZ". For example, our intern. Director, who is a complete theatrical beginner, will already tell you he is enjoying every minute of it and learning a lot.
Best Wishes,
