Marvin Barrios is sixteen years of age and lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. He currently attends the Advanced Technologies Academy magnet school. This is Barrios first publication nationally. Empala and the Floating Cities will be released on November 1, 2003. It will be available in 90% of the US book market, including major book retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon.com, to name a few. The book will be available for exclusive sale on MarvinBarrios.com sometime this August. Retail prices will range from $6.99-$21.95, with formats including: e-book, paperback, and hardcover.
When Marvin Barrios sent a one-page query letter to over thirty agents, they all responded negatively, the main reason, his age. Barrios says, I didnt want to hide my age, so I went straight forward and said Im sixteen. One of the agents sent a letter saying 'Sixteen, thats a joke. At that point, I was convinced there werent many sixteen-year-old authors out there." This led Marvin to start his own publishing house, EMPALA PRESS. The company now has contracts with several distributors and plans to go international sometime at the end of this year.
