Humanitarian Crisis Looms in Africa and in America 10,000 Liberian war Refugees Face Deportation.200,000 displaced Liberians in Monrovia in danger of death! Preacher calls attention to perilous times.

Humanitarian Crisis Looms in Liberia, West Africa but 10,000 Liberian Refugees seeking refuge in the USA for 12 years face Deportation back to Liberia. 200,000 Liberians displaced in danger of death Preacher calls attention to perilous times as "Liberian refugee fairness" bill sits in congressional committee.

Boston, Massachusetts-The Universal Human Rights International (UHRI) and the Massachusetts Legislative Black Caucus lunch a week of awareness campaign focusing on the plight of victims of the bloody 12 year civil war as Congress contemplates a bill to grant Green Card to the Liberian refugees. Beginning Sunday, July 20, 2003 at the 2nd African Meeting House, 12th Baptist Church, in Roxbury, Massachusetts Rev. Mahn C. Krua, 79, will open the week with a sermon on the theme Perilous Times. Rev. Mahn Krua, a Baptist minister from war-torn Liberia will lament the ever-increasing woes of the poor, the degeneration of the moral fabric of society and the drafting of the church from its purpose of light bearer and salt of the Earth. Speaking in his native Dan language of Liberia, the mainly English speaking congregation of 12th Baptist will rely on Krua's son, Torli Krua to interpret. Centuries ago, American missionaries who took the Gospel to Africa relied on interpreters to convey the "Good News" to native Africans. In a reverse evangelistic move, African preachers are increasingly taking the Gospel to Americans as church closures in America remains on the rise. Senator Jack Reed, D-RI is the author of the Liberian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act; S656 reintroduced in the US Senate recently. "It is innately unfair to continually put people through this unnecessary uncertainty," Reed stated. "More than 10,000 people have lives, worked and paid taxes here. Many of them have had children born as American citizens here, yet year after year they face a needless deadline that could send them into the middle of a war. For so long they have contributed to our country, it time that we finally grant them permanent residency." Reed added. According to Reed, what he is seeking from Congress is nothing new. " In the time since the Liberians left their homeland because of a bloody civil war, Congress has passed a law allowing 4,996 Poles, 387 Ugandans, 565 Afghanis, and 1,180 Ethiopians to adjust their status...over 50,000 Chinese, 150,000 Nicaraguans, 5,000 Cubans, 200,000 El Salvadorans and 50,000 Guatemalans became eligible to change their status. The United Nations estimates that 200,000 people have been displaced by war and human rights organizations accuse both sides of abuses, including rapes, killings and forced recruitment of civilians." Reed concluded.
