(PRWEB) July, 2003 -- The Australian Undergraduate students in computing Conference was motivated by the suggestion that student run conferences are not at all common in Australia. Such conferences provide students with many professional development opportunities, in areas of research, written and public speaking skills, time management, team work and organisational skills.

AUSCC03 is a conference run by and for Australian Undergraduate Students in Information Technology, software Engineering, Computer Science and Information Systems, to be hosted by the University of Melbourne in September 2003.

It has been stated by Industry that, whilst graduates are equipped with an array of technical skills, they may not have had the opportunity to develop other skills necessary for graduate employment. Whilst providing undergraduate students the opportunity for professional development, we would also like to use the conference as an opportunity for closer involvement between industry and universities.

AUSCC03 will feature presentations of research by undergraduates and honours students in the broad field of information and communication technology. AUSCC03 is the inaugural AUSCC event, and will be a fantastic experience for everyone interested in ICT at the undergraduate level.

A number of exciting activities will be held at AUSCC03, including: prominent keynote speakers invited from industry, academia and the government, student paper and tutorial presentations on evolving fields such as wireless networking and databases, ICT industry representatives attending and eager to discuss their products, services and potential career opportunities, and many opportunities to meet like-minded attendees and build upon that all-important professional network.

AUSCC03 is sponsored by Apple Computer Australia and will be hosted by the University of Melbourne's Department of Software Engineering and Computer Science and Department of Information Systems, in the new state of the art University Square precinct. The University's Parkville campus is in an ideal location: walking distance from Melbourne's CBD to the south and to the east, Lygon Street, home to a stretch of Italian restaurants and cafes producing some of the country's best espresso!

The opportunities offered by AUSCC03 are unique, and have never been previously offered to Australian undergraduates. This will be a chance for attendees to gain significant exposure to research in the ICT sector, insight into the ICT industry, and a provide a communication pathway between industry, academics and future I.T. graduates.
