The Austin Symphony Orchestra Reveals An Expanded Season Full of Beloved Names and Numbers
(PRWEB) July, 2003 -- The Austin Symphony Orchestra presents its brand new season, 93 Seasons Under One Flag." Under the baton of Maestro Peter Bay, one of Americas most exciting conductors, the exceptional orchestras repertoire and reach includes a series of eight concert pairs running monthly September through April in Bass Concert Hall as well as four pops events.
The ASO launches its astounding classical season in September with the legendary pianist Emanuel Ax following up in October with the exciting Eroica Trio. November brings a very special program honoring the 40th anniversary of Kennedys assassination with Dan Welchers The Voice of Peace" narrated by Hugh Downs.
The classical season goes on with such favored guest artists as pianists Jon Kimura Parker, Mūza Rubackyté, and Norman Krieger; and violinists Judith Ingolfsson and Ilya Gringolts. Audiences can expect some of their favorite composers as well, with works of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Schubert, Liszt. Sibelius, Dvorįk, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin, Copland, Mendelssohn, Mahler and more filling the season repertoire.
An evening of Pops with the ASO is now twice the fun thanks to Sarah and Ernest Butler. Their new series has doubled the size of the Symphonys pops offerings to four: the soulful sounds of The 5th Dimension and 'secret agent man Johnny Rivers (at Palmer Events Center) as well as the romantic harmonies of The Lettermen and the western pep of Riders in the Sky (at Riverbend Centre).
The Symphonys reknowned Family Series is a treat for kids and parents! In October, we present Halloween Childrens Concert at the Paramount Theater where children and their families are encouraged to come in costume to hear music and celebrate Halloween with the orchestra.
The second concert in the series, held in the spring, is the Spring Family concert featuring the Texas favorite: Joe McDermott. This unique event is enhanced by live video projected on a huge screen above the orchestra: high energy and very entertaining music thats relative to the whole family!
But the season doesnt stop at eight classicals, four pops, and two family concerts, theres a myriad of holiday events as well. The H-E-B July 4th Concert & Fireworks and the Christmas Sing-Along are two free events that have become local traditions. Additionally, the ASO is pleased to present Handels Messiah at Riverbend Center.
With Childrens Day Art Park at Symphony Square every Wednesday in June and July (except July 2nd) and the free Concerts in the Park at Wooldride Park every Sunday at dusk this summer, audiences should be primed for the first classical concert in September. Gaining on a century in the community, the Austin Symphony is performing more concerts, reaching more young people, and working harder to serve the people of Austin than ever before.
