(PRWEB) July 29, 2003 -- Therapists are complaining of limitations for professional advancement, demanding hours, and disappointing salaries. South Florida Medical Management is offering conferences designed to transition mental health professionals into successful small business owners.
As a licensee in the field in mental health, I have met many peers who are dissatisfied with their current professional status. Therapists complaints are pervasive and include: poor pay, demanding hours (working more than one job), and limitations for advancement. In addition, some therapist would like to have the choice to control or limit their clinical contact hours. Frustrations in the field are numerous.
Motivation for obtaining a graduate degree in the mental health field is often intellectual curiosity and desire to make a positive contribution to the community. The large sacrifice of time, money, and work to obtain degrees/licenses in the mental health field, when compared to other professional degrees in terms of societal and economic value, leaves many feeling disappointed and sometimes regretful about their decision to become a therapist.
If the description above describes your attitude as well, you may be interested in an opportunity to become an independent provider of mental health services through the medwaiver program. Medwaiver is a program whose purpose is to promote and maintain the health of special populations including developmentally disabled individuals through the provision of necessary medical and support services.
Behavioral treatment may be designated to reduce problem behaviors or to increase or initiate adaptive behaviors that may improve an individuals independence as well as quality of life. These behavioral services are currently reimbursed by the states at some of the highest rates in our industry. In addition, there are two other Florida medwaiver programs that can also be accessed that were developed to specifically address the needs of AIDS patients (PAC-waiver) and the disabled elderly (Aged and disabled waiver).
Individuals who have successfully navigated their way to certification as a medwaiver provider have a choice to employ others in the field to be the direct care providers. From this perspective, its nice to know there are plenty of therapists out there looking for better opportunities. Other medical services can also be provided through the medwaiver program such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy.
There is currently a surplus of developmentally disabled patients waiting for service. As a certified medwaiver provider you can help individuals who are in desperate need of treatment and earn a comfortable six -figure salary.
Becoming a medwaiver provider demands that an organization or individual successfully completes a rather demanding credentialing and certification process followed by ongoing clinical monitoring. For many mental health professionals the process is unfamiliar and intimidating, not to mention time consuming.
South Florida Medical Management is a consulting firm that is offering weekend seminars designed to prepare mental health professionals to successfully obtain medwaiver certification. Application documentation is provided and SFMM will show you through a simplified step-by-step process how to gain your certification.
This seminar will also train you in the behavioral treatment protocols that are the current standard of practice including: delivery of service and behavioral acquisition and reduction program writing. Everything you need to establish certification, deliver and document delivery of services, as well as billing procedures is provided during this 2-day conference.
For more information regarding cost, location, and date of these seminars please contact South Florida Medical Management representatives Stuart Townsend, Psy.D., LMHC or Allen Drozd, LMHC (Email: admin@SFMM.net Phone: (305) 820-1361).
