Take Part in Art - With New Book of Designs, Author Asks Readers to Color
WINONA, Minn. - To some, the world is a white canvas and the people that
tread upon it add color, creating a beautiful masterpiece. Art is a flexible term
that can be applied subjectively. Some art is complex; other forms use simple
lines and colors. Still, others invite participation. The work of John Wik falls into
the latter category and he offers a collection for readers to color in his new book,
Deco Tech: Designs for Coloring.
"I've always viewed art and design as a means of communication and I feel
that the best way to share my work is to get people involved in the process of
creation right along with me. The coloring book format is the most open
invitation to explore my work I can think of as it makes the work available to
everyone equally and on very simple terms," Wik says.
Deco Tech: Designs for Coloring contains a selection of 50 in-depth
geometric designs and patterns for coloring enthusiasts of every age. Inspired
by Wik's love of Art Deco, pattern design and coloring, the book presents his
detailed designs, waiting for an artist's imaginative coloration. Wik drew each
design, infusing a more technical ÒvibeÓ than the geometric imagery from the
Deco era. The designs range in complexity, from simple shapes to intricate
patterns of complex shapes.
"(M)y designs stand alone primarily because they were intended as a unified
artistic venture between myself and those who wish to color them, rather than
simply a way to pass time." Wik states.
A book with as many different possibilities as there are individuals, Deco
Tech is a creative adventure for the artist in everyone.
Born in Minnesota, Wik has been active in many forms of artistic creation,
including ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, digital art, music, writing, and ink drawing,
which he notes is his "first and eternal love." He currently resides in
southeastern Minnesota with his wife, Christine; daughter, Lydia; and cat, Juju.
