WASHINGTON, DC (PRWEB) July 30, 2003 - BIO RITMO, Virginias prominent Salsa band will open for Grammy award-winning Mexican Alternative Rock band CAFÉ TACUBA, August 7, 2003 at 8:30 PM at the 9:30 Nightclub in Washington, DC. BIO RITMO emerged from a five-year recording hiatus this spring on its eagerly awaited, self-titled fourth full-length release, BIO RITMO.
BIO RITMOS latest collection of eight Salsa originals is best described by The Washington Post as Energizing and often downright flammable." The band expands and explores the boundaries of traditional Salsa music, a musical genre that peaked in the 1970s and has made a steady comeback in the last few years, by using creative styles and techniques that bring a modern twist to Old School Salsa."
Founded in 1991, BIO RITMO has come full circle with its newest album, which harkens back to its Puerto Rican roots. Of interest are the seductive percussion and horn blowing beats of songs like Atrevate" and Para Los Romperos," and the heart-moving bolero El Rayito."
Based in Richmond, this nine-piece band is headed by Puerto Rican native Rei Alvarez (lead vocals, percussion) and includes the diverse musical talents of Gabo Tomasini (conga, percussion), Giustina Riccio (timbales, percussion, vocals) Mambo" Bob Miller (trumpet, vocals), Tim Lett (trumpet, percussion), Stefanos Demetriadis (bass trombone), Tobias Whitaker (trombone), Marlysse Simmons (Piano), and Jonathan Sullivan (bass).
BIO RITMO has shared the stage with legendary artists including the late Tito Puente and Celia Cruz, The Dave Matthews Band, Albita, Ozomatli, and Poncho Sanchez. BIO RITMO's universal appeal has garnered major press coverage from CNN, NPR, Spin, Harper's Bazaar, Mademoiselle and Mountain Stage, among others.
