LitterButt.com Owner Launches New Site, CCSignatureCheck.org, to Combat Credit Card Fraud
CCSignatureCheck.org gives consumers the ability to protect their credit cards by reporting non-compliant merchants through their online web portal
LitterButt.com is a site created after frustration with commuters carelessly littering from their cars without regard for the environment. The LitterButt.com web site allows commuters to register license plates of cars where an item was discarded. Participating States receive the reports and notify the registered owner of the laws concerning littering and the environmental impact of their actions.
Empowering the online community through the use of Internet technologies, LitterButt.com's success has spawned a new consumer web site, CCSignatureCheck.org, in an attempt to crack down on over $1 billion per year in credit card fraud.
Merchants are the first-line against credit card fraud and more often than not merchants do not check receipt signatures against credit card signatures - allowing fraud to occur and the company to take the loss or charge-back from the credit card.
CCSignatureCheck.org allows visitors to report businesses that do not check receipt signature against credit card signatures during the purchase process. Reports are available to participating credit card companies to ensure merchants are adhering to the credit card policy of checking signatures. A second level of reporting is available to merchants, enabling them to determine which stores are not following company procedures during credit card transactions.
Ensuring the integrity of reports for banks and merchants, visitors must submit full identifying information such as name, address and phone number which may be used by credit card companies and merchants for validation only.
Consumer identifying data is encrypted using industry-standard ciphers such as RC2 or DES among other data security features to ensure protection of privacy. Participating banks and merchants must also sign a non-disclosure contract to prevent them from marketing to individuals or selling/sharing their contact information.
Credit card issuing banks will have data available regarding all merchant reports allowing each credit card bank to handle charge-backs more appropriately while merchants will are limited to reports against their company.
