PHI MAGNETRONICS ADDS HIGH VOLUME LOW COST MANUFACTURING
Phi Magnetronics, probably makes the worlds most durable magnetic recording heads for transport ticketing & ATM machines, potentially capable of outlasting the expected life of the majority of such equipment, but for many OEMs the cost of long-life components is not low enough for inclusion in many designs, where their equipment sales price is critical in highly competitive markets.
Over the last forty years Phi Magnetronics moved from the production of high volume magnetic tape heads for reel to reel recorders into more specialised niche market analogue and digital products, but now finds itself returning to the objectives of its founders.
Forging partnerships with operations in countries where labour costs are lower is known to be difficult, particularly where high manual skill levels are required, and this problem has long plagued similar companies to Phi Magnetronics.
The design engineering capabilities of the company can now be harnessed with the costs saving available of manufacture in China where, by the use of technology transfer and continuing research and development, new designs can now be made to meet the needs of the world economy, for one, two, three and four track digital read and write magnetic heads for Point of Sale, ATM, ticketing and cheque reading & banking equipment.
Situated in southern China, the plant has a current capacity of approaching three million magnetic heads each year and can also provide both gimbal mounted heads or complete magnetic card readers.
Quality Assurance is guaranteed by Phi Magnetronicss adherence to its ISO 9001 objectives, ensuring reliability through sound designs, quality of build and customer service to all parts of the globe both from the UK manufacturing base and from China, supported by its USA & UK sales offices.
