SMC¡¦s Newest Gigabit Switch Handles Heavy Traffic Workgroups and Power Users with Ease

Feature-rich TigerSwitch„§ 10/100/1000 12-Port Standalone Managed Switch packs advanced features and high-end upgrade options like mini-GBIC expansion

Irvine, CA, July 29, 2003 -- SMC® Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the Enterprise, the SMB and all the way home, today announced the newest addition to its TigerSwitch line of business networking products, the SMC8612T 10/100/1000 Managed Switch. Available immediately at an MSRP of $1199, the new SMC8612T switch has 12 fixed 10/100/1000 ports and four mini GBIC expansion slots for optional fiber Gigabit connections.

At its best in demanding, high-traffic environments, the SMC8612T races ahead of the pack to move data at speeds up to 24Gps. Based on the same platform as the 24-port TigerSwitch 10/100/1000 8624T, it is perfect for smaller enterprise workgroup or backbone switching applications.

The new 12-port, tri-speed TigerSwitch SMC8612T not only delivers high performance, non-blocking switching at wire-speed, it's loaded with the advanced features that demanding environments need. Its advanced security features include RADIUS, IGMP, SSL, TACACS+ and VLAN support with GVRP; and the SMC8612T comes with EliteView, a top-notch network management software, as well as support for QoS, RMON and port mirroring. Built for robust workgroup and backbone switching today, the SMC8612T offers jumbo packet processing of up to 9K to enhance network performance considerably and ensure the integrity of large packets.

The TigerSwitch SMC8612T 10/100/1000 Managed Switch is available now, at a list price of $1199; uplinks and redundant power supplies are also available, at list prices ranging from $519.99 to $3454.99.
