Instant Films LLC has produced 62 shorts films since it was founded in 2002. Founders Peter Lebow, Charles Papert, and John Sylvain created Instant Films to give writers, directors and actors a challenging exercise in raw creativity by making films in two days. The process starts on Friday evening when eight writers pick random topics with a gender breakdown, and are given twelve hours to deliver the script to the director. Directors are randomly assigned a script and a cast, and the team goes out to make a finished product by 7:00pm Sunday night - edited, with music and titles.
Actors for past festivals, have included Ahmed Best of (Jar Jar Binks of Star Wars Episodes I and II), Matt Walsh (Old School, Upright Citizens Brigade), Chris Atkins (Blue Lagoon), Jordan Cassel (USAs Movie Make-Over), Hillary Salvatore (American Pie, West Wing and Gilmore Girls), Suzy Nakamura (Stark Raving Mad and was on West Wing first season). Some of the directors have been John Ennis (Meet My Folks), Paul Hough (director of The Backyard), Lily Mariye and Yvette Freeman (actresses on ER), Charles Papert (Camera OP for Scrubs), Jason Bloom (Bio Dome), and stuntman Denny Pierce, and writers have included Deb Cohn from The West Wing," John Zack from Out Cold, and Gail Lerner Will and Grace," and Colin Campbell (Husband and wife writer team and past Oscar nominee for live action short Seraglio).
Instant Films LLC film festivals are screened at Los Angeles Center Studios located at 450 S. Bixel, between 3rd and 5th Street, in Downtown Los Angeles, 90017.
