Boston, MA (PRWEB) August 1, 2003 --The National Alliance to End Homelessness recently named IMPACT Employment Services a Best Practice" in ending homelessness. A program of The Friends of the Shattuck Shelter, IMPACT is Greater Bostons largest employment service for individuals and families facing homelessness. Since its inception in 1994, more than 2,500 people have successfully obtained employment and enhanced their self-sufficiency through its complete range of employment services.
Focusing on employment opportunities that can sustain long-term stability in housing, the program serves people from over 130 homeless service providers, domestic violence programs, and recovery programs, providing them with an extensive array of employment and educational services. In the summer of 2001, IMPACT expanded its services to assist people exiting the Massachusetts Department of Corrections.
Through this new addition, IMPACT counselors work with clients both before and after they are released, adding general case management and community support to the programs full array of services. Since July 2002, out of 38 active clients who have left the Department of Corrections, the program has placed 18 into housing and helped 22 successfully attain employment, thus putting them into a more advantageous position in their quest for self-sufficiency.
Based in downtown Boston, IMPACT s professional staff of employment counselors, job developers and educational and training specialists speak a variety of languages and represent diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
The Friends of the Shattuck Shelter develops, implements and supports a comprehensive continuum of care for homeless men and women including: prevention, outreach and assessment; emergency shelter; employment and training; transitional housing; permanent housing; and related supportive services by facilitating collaborations, increasing public awareness, providing direct services, educating public policy makers, raising funds and promoting community involvement.
