AUTHOR SEEKS INTERNET HELP TO MAKE SALES HISTORY
"Fighting The Big Guys"
Gene Cartwright? His name does not yet command the attention of a John Grisham or Stephen King, but that could soon change. The controversial author is determined to confound the bookselling establishment by using the internet to move one million copies of his newest novel in record time.
Gene Cartwright? His name does not yet command the attention of a John Grisham, Stephen King or Toni Morrison, but that may soon change. "I'm David Vs Goliath on Steroids."
That's how the controversial author describes himself. Cartwright is launching a global appeal to internet users. He wants them to help him sell a million books, confound the book establishment-and show that book lovers determine bestsellers, not corporate giants and creative marketing stats.
HOW WILL HE TO DO THAT? You ask.
Cartwright hopes to make history for internet sales of adult fiction, with his newest novel, HALF MOON, FULL HEART. His 252 page, hardcover novel has been described as: "BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY meets ROMEO AND JULIET."
The goal? Sell 1,000,000 copies, worldwide, on amazon.com, within 120 days. "This will change the world of publishing, Cartwright says. The internet has an untapped ability to empower the 'little guy.'
It's an amazing, some would say impossible goal. All this, without the support of a major publisher. Gene's newest and first novels are available at amazon.com, and the author's site: www.namewhiz.com
Cartwright's first novel, 'I Never Played Catch With My Father,' caused quite a national stir and landed him an Oprah invitation during his national tour. His sin? Cartwright dared to write his first novel with a white main character. The African-American author was blasted, his book banned in many places.
"Agents and major publishers don't know what to do with me. But no one questions James Patterson's or Pearl Buck's creation of main characters outside their own ethnicity. I'm a writer, damn it. My next novel, A FAMILY GATHERING is about a young, southern, black girl who triumphs over tragedy. And I've never been female either. Half Moon, Full Heart will probably be controversial as well."
Cartwright, who loves touring, book club appearances and giving free books to nursing home residents, is an eternal optimist. He says his faith is in true book lovers.
And here's a first: Cartwright promises that if a buyer doesn't enjoy the novel, he will personally refund them his share of the purchase price. Too bad other authors don't make that offer.
We'll keep you informed on Cartwright's monumental effort.
