(PRWEB) July, 2003 -- On August 23rd, 2003, a collective of The finest in independent music and the arts comes to downtown Manhattan's historical Battery Park when "A Day in the Park", part of the River to River Festival, commences at noon on Saturday, August 23.
A Day in the Park features a full day of outdoor performances and is free and for all ages. these artists have altruistically donated their time and talent in order to bring thousands of people together, in an effort to assist in the revitalization and cultural growth of the downtown area in an atmosphere laced with positive, constructive, and cooperative energy.
The day will start, as it should, at noon with a beautifully sung "Star Spangled Banner" by New Yorks own LOURDES. The rest of the day has been filled with celebration and support, featuring New York City based musicians including our headliner NINE DAYS who have a Gold Record and Hit single "Absolutely (Story Of A Girl)" to their credit, Long Islands own Iridesense, Jen Elliot and Bluestruck, Vida, and many other musicians, well known Comedy Central caliber stand up comedians including Jessica Kirson, and even several renowned actors.
The event is also filled with many generous sponsores including LIFEbeat, a national, non profit organization dedicated to reaching America's youth with the message of HIV & Aids prevention and Circle Line Ferries who are providing discounted cruises around downtown manhattan throughout the day. The cruises dispatch right out of Battery Park and provide yet another form of entertainment.
ALL proceeds from financial donations beyond the cost of the event will be donated to the Greenwich Village Youth Council, for the establishment of a charitable music department, including instrument donation and free lessons, aimed at the area youth. "A Day in the Park" also marks the promotional launch of the Daintree Rain Forest Project, a project to save one of the earth's great rainforests, by two of the sponsors, City Canyons Records and Pivotal Ecosystems.
The organizers of "A Day in the Park" Rick Eberle (President, PopCore Entertainment) and Marco Berrios wholeheartedly encourage the audience to bring kites, beach balls, Frisbees, board games; bring a glove and a baseball, a football, kick a soccer ball around, sit and play guitar, knock a hacky-sack in the air. "A Day in the Park" is meant to allow the audience to revisit and rediscover the pastoral enjoyment of New York City, an atmosphere that has suffered in the events of the past two years. New York City is home to some of the greatest pastoral parks and gardens in the world; the very city is built on the juxtaposition of high culture and appreciation of the outdoors. As Walt Whitman (a fellow New Yorker) said, "Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms." Indeed, lets leave our close rooms and offices...let us all enjoy "A Day in the Park".

As it should be, the entire event is 100% free and is open to all ages. The New York City parks department has already
issued and approved the permit for this charitable event.
While all the performers have agreed to donate their time and effort absolutely free of charge, there are certain
production services and costs associated with producing such an event; park fees, equipment needs, marketing & promotion
costs are only a few of the concerns of the organizers. We are still seeking individual donors and/or corporate
sponsors to help support this event with TAX DEDUCTIBLE donations and/or event participation. In lieu of a simple
financial donation, we certainly welcome efforts such as equipment loans (audio/lighting/power), assistance in the
post show cleaning, media coverage or design...no matter what an individual or a company can offer, we are certain
that we can find a means by which A Day in the Park" can make use of any charitable donation. In exchange for
all of their much-appreciated assistance, donors and sponsors receive billing, allowing for extensive exposure
opportunities, as well as an exciting tie-in to New York City's freshest talent. Finally, ALL proceeds from
financial donations beyond the cost of the event will be donated to the Greenwich Village Youth Council, so they
may establish a charitable music department, including instrument donation and free lessons, aimed at the area youth.
This is a unique opportunity to help support the community and the rebuilding of downtown. Some of the ways in which
sponsors will receive exposure in conjunction with our event include:
·Media Exposure - the organizers have made contact with a number of the tri-state areas leading publications. We expect wide-ranging media coverage for the event.
·Public Relations - production has already begun on press kits, flyers, leaflets, and radio and live advertising. All donor/sponsors will receive billing and notice in nearly all advertising.
·Event Advertising - we welcome banners and signage on the day of the event. Additionally, donor/sponsors will receive Inclusion in participating bands websites and to their fan databases
Please help make this event a true success. If you can't get involved by donating your services,
please accept this invitation and enjoy A Day in the Park" on 8/23/03.
