R-Biopharm releases two new test kits for the detection of Nitrofurans in food
R-Biopharm launches first test kit for the determination of nitrofurans in shrimp, chicken, pork beef and milk.
Nitrofuran is an antibiotic which has been banned in the EU since 1993.
Marshall, MI (PRWEB) August 2, 2003 - R-Biopharm, Inc. announced today that it has released the first ELISA test kits for the quantitative determination of Nitrofurans (AOZ & AMOZ) in food.
Nitrofurans are synthetic broad spectrum antibiotics which are frequently used in animal production for its excellent antibacterial properties. They have also been used as growth promoters in the pork, poultry and fish sectors.
In long term studies with experimental animals the drug showed carcinogenic and mutagenic characteristics. This has led to a ban of nitrofurans for the treatment of animals used for food production in the EU.
Nitrofuran residues are determined most commonly by LC-UV, LC-MS, or LC-MS/MS. Enzyme immunoassays, compared with chromatographic methods show considerable advantages regarding sensitivity, detection limit, technical equipment and time requirement.
Using the RIDASCREEN® Nitrofuran tests, it is possible to detect AOZ/AMOZ in shrimp, chicken, pork, beef and AOZ in milk.
R-Biopharm is one of the global leaders in the fields of food and animal feed safety. The company develops, manufactures and markets rapid enzyme immunoassays for the detection of residues in food and feed. R-Biopharm is also the worldwide exclusive distributor for the Boehringer Mannheim Roche enzymatic tests as well as PCR based tests for the detection of GMOs, allergens and meat speciation by CONGEN.
