San Diego, CA -- August 5, 2003 -- NetNose is the next logical step in search engine technology. Previous web site rating systems, which determine the relevancy of a web site to a specific keyword or phrase, have relied on either automated computer algorithms or human category editors. Both of these methods have fundamental problems. The rating systems based on computer algorithms are susceptible to fraud and cannot provide the quality evaluations of a human being. In current human editor based rating systems, the web site ratings have been biased by the prejudices of an elite few. The NetNose rating system completely eliminates these problems using the never before seen public voice algorithm.

How will the NetNose rating system bring democracy to the web?

NetNose has developed the first rating system that provides multiple people the opportunity to vote on the relevancy of a web site to its search terms. In this system, the opinion of the majority always wins resulting in a truly democratic process. This process is periodically repeated for all web sites to further refine the quality of the search system.

Unlike other human edited systems, NetNose does not require an application or registration to become a rater. NetNose respects the privacy of individuals by providing a completely open and anonymous rating system. This aspect of the rating system allows NetNose to receive input from a much broader cross section of the public thereby eliminating the effect of personal biases.

Finally, NetNose realized that it must provide an easy to use, no download interface to this rating system so that even a casual web surfer would feel confident rating the web. The NetNose web based rating console does just that. Any web surfer can begin rating web sites in seconds using this console. The NetNose toolbar is also in development, and will provide a seamless interface for avid raters.
