"My Fractured Life" Novel Sells Out Inventory at Barnes & Nobel Following Option of Film Rights
Following the announcement of Port Magee Picture's securement of the film pitch rights for the Hollywood novel "My Fractured Life," a rush on sales has completely depleted book giant Barnes & Nobel of its entire inventory.
LOS ANGELES - Barnes & Nobel.com, the largest book retailer on the Internet, has completely depleted its inventory of the book "My Fractured Life" by actor-recording artist Rikki Lee Travolta due to a rush on sales following the announcement that Port Magee Pictures has optioned the exclusive pitch rights for a film adaptation.
On Tuesday, July 22, 2003, it was announced that Ingram Book Group now serves as the primary distributor of the Travolta novel. In response to the announcement, Barnes & Nobel.com began offering a special on the breakout novel at 10% list price. Readers Advantage club members receive an additionally discounted price of $13.63. On August 4, 2003, the Internet giant indicated it had fully depleted its stock of the book.
Ingram Book Group maintains a National Book Clubs Standing Order Program that supplies selections of the Today Show's "Today Book Club," Good Morning America's "Read This!" program, the USA Today Book Club, and the "Reading with Ripa" light fiction program of Live with Regis and Kelly.
Travoltas semi-autobiographical novel details the behind-the-scenes lifestyle of Hollywoods elite. An internationally published news journalist prior to achieving fame as a B-list movie star and recording artist, Travolta provides intimate details of the entertainment industry with journalistic accuracy. Celebrity names that appear in the book include George Clooney, Johnny Depp, and Angelina Jolie.
Reviews at Barnes & Nobels website compare "My Fractured Life" to the New York Times best sellers "Postcards from the Edge" by Carrie Fisher and "If Chins Could Kill" by fellow B-movie actor Bruce Campbell.
A Hollywood B-film and television actor, national touring stage headliner, and international recording artist who was the first celebrity guest star in the "Tony n Tinas Wedding" stage franchise, Travolta's mainstream film career includes "Edtv" by Oscar-winning director Ron Howard.
Travolta was represented by manager Drake Miezel of Prime Time Entertainment and Chicago-based entertainment attorney Steven Walanka in the Port Magee contract.
On July 25, 2003, it was announced that Port Magee Pictures has optioned the film pitch rights for the novel. Port Magee pictures produced the 2002 television series "Santiara." Port Magee principals Dan Riley and Peter J. Clark share individual credits on "The Original Kings of Comedy," "Superstar," "The Wood," and "The Core."
Reporting equally strong sales, on August 3, 2003, Amazon.com placed an order to increase its stock of the novel by 100%. Reviews at Amazon.com include comparisons to "Basketball Diaries" which was successfully adapted as a film staring Leonard DeCaprio.
