Burn Injury Management Shows Strong Growth Through 2007

Burn injury management products will show double-digit gains in the coming years, according to a new study released today by Kalorama Information. New York, (PRWEB) August 7, 2003 - Burn injury management products will show double-digit gains in the coming years, according to a new study released today by Kalorama Information. Although only one part of the approximately $1.5 billion burn treatment market, cleansing, debridement, and silver dressing products will grow significantly from advances in product offerings and important distribution changes.

According to the new study, Wound Care Markets Volume II: Burns, the market will be driven primarily by new product innovations in the treatment of burns-a difficult clinical problem that continues to represent significant unmet need. In addition, the increasing importance of burn care centers as a distribution channel will impact the market. Burn center admissions have doubled in recent years, and now represent approximately 50% of total burn care admissions.

"The burn segment of the wound care market has generally been of less interest to most developers because of the smaller patient population," notes Steven Heffner, Acquisitions Editor for Kalorama Information. "However, when you look at the cost of these injuries and the ineffectivness of current treatments to address them, there is great opportunity in the area, particularly for the more innovative approaches we noted in our research."

The study analyzes the world market for products used in burn care, including pressure relief devices; anti-infective products; cleansing and debridement products; silver dressings; moist dressings, such as alginates, hydrocolloids, hydrogels, films, and foams; biological products such as artificial skin and collagen; and other burn treatments. The study represents the second volume in an ongoing study of wound care markets by specific indication. The previous volume looked at the skin ulcer segment, and the third volume due out in the Fall of 2003 will examine surgical and trauma wound care.
