Nevada Federal Judge Denies Casino Summary Judgment In Racial Discrimination Case
African-American cashiers lawsuit to go forward.
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) August 8, 2003 -- On July 24, 2003, United States District Court Judge Kent J. Dawson denied a motion to dismiss or, in the alternative for summary judgment filed by Las Vegas casino Sams Town in an employment discrimination lawsuit filed by Fania Brown, an African-American cashier. In his 18-page decision, the judge also denied four additional motions filed by Sams Town seeking not only immediate judgment against Brown, but also asking the court to strike the briefs of her out-of-state counsel.
Brown, who remains employed by Sams Town, sued her employer for racial harassment, disparate treatment and emotional distress in connection with injuries she says she has suffered as a result of continual racial harassment and discrimination while working at Sams Town over the past decade.
Obviously, we are very pleased with the Courts decision," said Anthony Luti, Browns attorney. This was a tough battle, but the war isnt over. Ms. Brown looks forward to her day in court and the fair resolution of this matter. Ten years of discrimination is long enough." Judge Dawson has also extended the discovery period an additional six months.
Mr. Luti is available to comment on this matter and can be reached at (323) 960-2606. A copy of the courts order can be provided upon request.
