LUCKY DOG THEATRE brings its entirely spontaneous theatre pieces to several Bay Area stages for their Fall 2003 season, Sept. 14 through Nov. 14.
Opening night (Sept. 14) will be a benefit for Marins non-profit Pine Street Medical Education and Research Group which is affiliated with the Pine Street Clinic in San Anselmo. A reception/cast party follows the show and will include a brief presentation by Pine Street research representatives.
Lucky Dogs veteran improvisers of this masterful ensemble act and sing their way through an outpouring of original, unrehearsed tales ranging in tone from the fiercely comic to the surprisingly personal to the poignantly political.
Bay Area fans are drawn to the ensembles innovative theatrical style; not at all the grandmotherly buttoned-up, civilized theatre that most people might expect. Their work comes from the gut; smart, funny, sad and savvy, and each show explodes with audience-generated storytelling, multi-character theatrical scenes, and improvised music.
Spontaneous theatre with substance....improvised scenarios conceived and practiced with such eccentric passion that one finds oneself literally on the edge of ones seat." wrote one S.F. Tribune reviewer.
The actors -- Joya Cory, Greg Lejnieks, Katherine Sommers, Michael Sommers, Grace Walcott -- are accompanied by recording artist YEHUDIT, a well-known Bay Area violinist who has performed with John Handy, Jules Broussard, Dan Hicks, and the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra as well as her own jazz ensemble..
Cost is $15 at the door for opening night. $12 all other performances. For more information, call 415-564-4115 or visit www. joyacory.com.
