Society for the Blind Seeks Volunteers for Access News Program
The Society for the Blind is recruiting volunteers to read local news and advertising for their Access News program
(PRWEB) August 16, 2003 -- The Society for the Blind is recruiting volunteers to read local news and advertising for their Access News program.
Access News allows the blind and visually-impaired community to follow printed news and information using a free, dial-in phone service.
Volunteers receive extensive training and, with experience, are able to record readings at the Societys offices or from the volunteers home phone at their convenience.
Volunteers must be able to read and speak clearly, learn the document classification system, and have the skill to follow directions within an automated phone system, like voicemail.
For more information, contact the Society for the Blinds Volunteer Coordinator, Stephanie Baker, at 916.452.8271, extension 303.
About the Society for the Blind
Established in 1954, the Society for the Blind serves 3,300 blind and visually impaired residents of the Greater Sacramento area. The Society works with the progressive assumption that with proper training and opportunity, blindness can be reduced to the level of a physical nuisance.
A full-service community agency, the Society offers the blind and visually-impaired services, training and opportunity for employment. The Society houses a Low Vision Optometry Clinic featuring Northern California's largest collection of advanced optical and electronic aids, and a walk-in and mail order Adaptive Products Store. Additionally, the Society produces Braille documents and offers worksite evaluations, and accessibility consultations for businesses.
