Emergency Motion for Stay Filed in Terri Schiavo Case.
Attorney for family of disabled Pinellas woman files Emergency Motion for Stay Pending Discretionary Review.
Clearwater, FL -- August, 2003 -- Attorney Pat Anderson, representing the parents and siblings of Terri Schindler-Schiavo, today filed an Emergency Motion for Stay upon the Florida Supreme Court Pending Discretionary Review. In essence, Ms. Anderson is requesting that the Supreme Court halt further court proceedings until a thorough review of Ms. Schiavos case can be completed.
Ms. Schiavos parents and siblings believe the courts (specifically Judge George Greer of Pinellas) have shown extreme bias to Terris husband, Michael Schiavo. Though video evidence has been submitted of Terri responding to doctors and family members, Judge Greer has determined her activity to be reflex.
The family is seeking assistance from Floridas Governor, Jeb Bush and the Attorney General, Charlie Crist in the case. To date, upwards of 22,000 petitions asking the Governor to intervene have been signed and submitted to the Capitol.
Terri Schiavo suffered a collapse in 1990 that deprived her brain of oxygen for several minutes, causing brain damage. She receives nutrition and hydration via a feeding tube but is receiving no other life-support measures. Her husband has petitioned the Florida courts to remove her feeding tube, stating she wouldnt want to be kept alive artificially.
Terris parents and siblings have, for years, tried to block his efforts, citing 13 physicians who say Terri can recover with proper therapy.
