BLUE HILL DATA SERVICES CONTINUES SERVICE DESPITE MAJOR NORTHEAST BLACKOUT
At 4:10 p.m., resulting from an as-yet-to-be-determined cause, more than 50 million people were left without power over most of the Northeast. Pearl River, NY (PRWEB) August 17, 2003 -- At 4:10 p.m., resulting from an as yet to be determined cause, more than 50 million people were left without power over most of the Northeast. Despite this severe crisis, Blue Hill Data Services, Inc. effectively enacted their established disaster plans that provided uninterrupted service to customers dependent upon the data center facility.
BHDS UPS and generator backup system functioned as planned. Staff went into emergency mode and monitored all systems and network connections. Power was completely restored to the Blue Hill Plaza facilities by 3 a.m.

Our UPS system provided continuous and smooth power when the interruptions first began. Our generator backup power source, that we have to provide uninterrupted power for extended periods of time, started automatically within minutes and provided full uninterrupted power to the Blue Hill data center for about ten hours until outside power was restored at 2:41AM."
BHDS also has in place disaster plans, including a specific lights-out" situation plan that is tested on a monthly basis. The BHDS staff was fully prepared for this emergency.

VPN service to a few customers was interrupted as their internet connectivity was affected. BHDS management is already in discussions with the ISP service provider, and has initiated a contingency, resolving this issue in the event of future emergencies. Those clients who have dedicated point-to-point connectivity were completely unaffected and had no interruptions in service.
