7 Tips For A More Organized Lifestyle
Hope, BC -- Just because you have a problem with staying organized, doesn't mean you're lazy, or that you lack moral fibre. Dis-organization is simply a situation that arises when you don't make plans for your day (or your life.)
Many of us feel that we are just too busy to take time to learn new organizing skills. It's really just a matter of making good choices about how you choose to spend your time and a bit of planning is time well spent. Why not bite the bullet and schedule a planning session? Create your action plan and get going. You may have to apply a little elbow grease too! Here are a few tips to get you started.
1/ You don't need to organize everything in a day. Do a little each day and don't miss a day.
2/ If you don't live alone, involve the people you live with. Tell them you need to have less clutter in your life and you need their help to get rid of the excess.
3/ Decide on three things you want to change, it might be less clutter, prompt bill payments and no more missed appointments. (It can be anything you want to change.)
4/ Start with the problem that is bothering you most. Are you worried about money? Missing bill payments means you risk incurring extra charges and late payments ruin your credit rating. Paying bills on time would be a priority. Set up a system for paying your bills. Have your statements e-mailed to you or use an online payment service. Continue on with each thing you want to change.
5/ Set up a home office even if it is just a drawer in your kitchen. Have a wall calendar, an address book or software for telephone numbers and a day-planner or notebook. Stock up with the proper supplies: pens, stationary and stamps. You'll need a record system so get yourself a filing cabinet or folders to keep your paperwork in order.
6/ At the beginning of the week, sit down and write down all the chores or appointments you have during the coming week and put them in your notebook, planner or on the calendar. Ask the family if there are things they have to do that might affect your schedule and pencil those in as well.
7/ Lack of proper storage space is one big reason why our 'stuff' takes over. Invest in containers and baskets, drawer dividers and gadgets to keep things orderly. Get creative, see if there are things around the house you can use for alternative storage solutions. ( A bedside table in the hall to hold mitts, hats and scarves or a bookcase for shoes and boots.)
