The Impassioned Leader

(PRWEB) August 20, 2003 -- The Impassioned Leader, by Denis Orme; powerful and practical strategies for executives and politicians whove made it, and for those on the way up. Four thousand five hundred businesses go bankrupt each year in New Zealand, impacting on over 30,000 New Zealanders.

There are two hundred and ninety thousand businesses in New Zealand and 4,500 of them go bankrupt or file for liquidation each year impacting on the lives of over 30,000 New Zealanders. This does not take into account those struggling businesses that are sold or just putter along. Additionally, forty-three businesses were taken over by Australian companies last year.

As a nation we have slid from 5th or 6th in most OECD indicators twenty years ago to a mid twenties position today in health, education, GDP and export earnings.

What is the common denominator? Leadership, or rather a lack of leadership. Many people, even in major New Zealand corporations do not know the difference between leadership and management. In 2002 the New Zealand Business Practices and Performance study Firm Foundations" concluded: No more than 2-3% of firms appear to be approaching international standards of performance on practices such as strategic planning and leadership, supplier relationships, employee performance management and benchmarking, or actively pursue strategies of innovation." Whatever happened to New Zealand Business Leadership?

An Australian Businesswomens Network survey in answer to the question What do you think the biggest barrier to women getting ahead today?" concluded from the 1200 respondents:

37.8% said a lack of self-promotion.
19.4% said having children.
18.8% said, outside work commitments.
18.6% said, gender discrimination.
5.4% said, other women.

Taking womens leadership to alpha level is a section which identifies factors for success in womans leadership.

In the government sector I believe there is now an increasing groundswell of public opinion that we are not doing so well in education, healthcare, and our standard of living. Add to that our now net $100 billion in foreign debt pushed to that level by imports exceeding exports again in 2002, and we are clearly a country that has lost its way.

The MMP experiment has reduced decision-making to the lowest common denominator, and even school children visiting parliament observed and commented on the pettiness and seeming lack of direction for the
country. Additionally, there is a plea for New Zealand for all New Zealanders."

If you accept that New Zealand has become a second-world country then you will be ready for a compelling vision building our future together":

Restore pride in New Zealand and promote cohesion between all New Zealanders.
Return to a world-class and focused education system.
Position New Zealand in the new, one-world marketplace.
Restore per capita income to a level within the top 10% of OECD countries.
Return to a world-class health care system.

The Impassioned Leader provides:

A structured, proven approach to leadership development, and success through your leadership career.
Heavy emphasis on the dos and donts" on how women in the New Zealand context can grow their leadership careers either to new levels in the corporate world or as business owners.
The rationale for and an incisive way to get New Zealand competing in world markets again through the Greenfields Approach to government and government leadership.
