Macro viruses are spread by Excel spreadsheets and other Microsoft Office documents. It is very easy to create a macro virus. For example, it just takes less than 50 lines of code to create virus that deletes all files on the userÂs hard disk. Anti-virus programs will only detect widespread macro viruses. All it takes to be infected is to answer ÂYes instead of ÂNoÂ.
ExcelEverywhere converts a spreadsheet into a web page that looks the same and that calculates the same as the spreadsheet. The conversion is automatic, and takes less than a minute. The resulting web page can either be emailed as an attachment, or it can be published on a website. By converting the spreadsheet into a web page, viruses are prevented to tag along and infect the receivers. Plain web pages cannot spread viruses.
When you receive an ExcelEverywhere-generated web page, you can store it on your local computer, and use it again and again. No connection to the internet is necessary, so the solution works for notebooks too. The formulas are also protected, so the user cannot accidentally change the formulas of the spreadsheet.
Mattias Waldau, chief technology officer of Framtidsforum I&M AB, says ÂWe didnÂt originally design ExcelEverywhere to solve the macro virus problem. We expected the problem to be solved before the product was launched. However, the fear of macro viruses has definitely boosted our sales.Â
ExcelEverywhere makes it simple to create online calculator like mortgage calculators, price calculators and financial advisors. It is also easy to design web-based forms like expense reports, order forms and surveys.
