AMS Technologies presents 3M Optical Components at ECOC 2003
AMS Technologies will present the well established products of 3M Optical Components at ECOC 2003, hall C5, stand 636 from September 22 to 24 in Rimini, Italy. The ECOC show is Europe`s largest exhibition of fiberoptic communication technology.
(PRWEB) August 24, 2003 -- 3M Optical Components offers a full line of Tiger PM fibers for use between lasers and modulators in manufacturing of lasers, pump lasers, lithium niobate external modulators and polarizing beam splitters. With operating wavelengths suitable for telecommunications applications the Tiger PM fiber has a tighter core-to-clad concentricity and reduced ovality for improved performance in connectorization and fusion splicing.
Tiger fiber also has an increased proof test level for long term mechanical reliability.3M also has rare-earth fibers designed with higher gain to enable smaller packaging size and reduced system cost. For use in both erbium-doped optical amplifiers (EDFAs) and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) sources, 3Ms unique core composition and co-doping process allows higher doping concentrations while maintaining power conversion efficiency.
The high erbium concentration results in fiber lengths that can be substantially reduced to meet the desired gain. These fibers are manufactured with exacting optical and geometrical uniformity tolerances and very tight control on mode field diameter; this results in excellent splice performance to industry standard transmission fibers using common fusion splicing equipment.
The 3M fiber pigtail includes a wedge fiber lens, anti-reflection (AR) coating, and nickel/gold (Ni/Au) metallization. Manufacturing issues relating to precise fiber alignment is a fact of life in photonic assemblies. Conventional metallization techniques limit reworkability and lower fiber strength, causing poor assembly yield for many optical component manufacturers. With 3M fiber pigtails, solder can be reflowed up to 20 times for optimal fiber alignment without solder pull strength or metallization degradation.3M also provides 200 µm core multi mode fibers for use in short-haul data and video communication in sensor, medical and other industrial applications.
The FT-200-EMT fiber is ideal suited for such applications where fiber more rugged than a standard 50 µm multi mode fiber is required.About AMS Technologies AGAMS Technologies, founded 1982, is one of Europe's leading distributors of electronic components.
AMS Technologies Group, headquartered in Martinsried/Munich with distribution offices in France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain, today comprises five technology divisions with a total staff of 60.
