Hunters Point Artist Derek Lynchs New Works SEGMENTS" Opening Exhibit Reception 10 September 2003 Gallery at Thoreau

San Francisco Artist Derek Lynchs study of nature in technology conveys a compelling juxtaposition of man and nature, or its concordant possibilities. Lynchs symbiotic effect, employed with a skilled sense of color and texture, fascinates the artist and viewer.

Lynch studied at The School of Visual Arts in New York City with Keith Haring www.haring.com and Kenny Scharf http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/scharf_kenny.html.

His unconventional technique applied to his paintings effect three-dimensional images that mingle and interact with each other. He uses botanical elements, electronic parts from computers, and objects from the environment. Influenced by the northern California landscape the Bay Areas hi-tech environment, his images are direct impressions of our surroundings.

The Gallery at Thoreau is pleased to premiere Lynchs Segments." Three compositions comprise 37 smaller paintings on one large panel. Lynchs polyptychs are absorbing, with multiple layers of paint that rise from the canvas. The imagery recalls technology and its patterns with botanical objects, fossilized amidst a background where the surface is scratched and textured, complex and tranquil. His formed impressions are molded with thick layers of paint.

Lynch is currently working on a project to document botanical and technological life in and around San Francisco.
